Student Newspaper Overview

The Student Newspaper is a creative platform for students to explore journalism, storytelling, and design. Members collaborate to write articles, create visuals, and publish content that informs, inspires, and engages the community. It’s a space to develop valuable skills, share unique perspectives, and make a meaningful impact.


Team Structure

  • Editor-in-Chief – Oversees the entire publication process, ensuring quality content and setting editorial standards. Leads the team in planning and coordinating each issue.
  • Copy Editor – Reviews and corrects grammar, style, and formatting for all articles before publishing.
  • Graphic Designer – Creates visual elements, such as illustrations and layouts, to enhance articles.

Columnists & Reporters

  • Student Life Columnist – Covers community events, clubs, and student life, giving readers an inside look at what’s happening in our community.
  • Tech & Gaming Columnist – Reports on tech trends, gaming reviews, new apps, and online tools for students, with an eye on tech that affects student life.
  • Social Issues & Current Events Columnist – Provides insights on social issues and current events, discussing important world topics, activism, and student perspectives.
  • Advice Columnist – Provides advice on student-submitted questions, offering peer support on topics like friendship, academics, and family.
  • Pop Culture Reporter – Reports on the latest in entertainment, from trending movies, music, TV shows and books.
  • Sports Reporter – Covers sports events, games, and athlete profiles, reporting on both school and broader sports news, like big national tournaments or popular athletes.
  • Spotlight Reporter – Profiles students, teachers, and community members, spotlighting achievements, talents, and personal stories that inspire others.


Meeting Structure

  • Frequency: monthly meetings on Wednesdays at 6:00 PM EST
    • 5:00 PM CST
    • 4:00 PM MST
    • 3:00 PM PST

  • Agenda:
    • Review previous meeting notes and action items.
    • Discuss upcoming events and content themes.
    • Collaborate on new content ideas and initiatives.
    • Plan for the next issue of the Student Newspaper.


Parental Consent

To join the Student Newspaper, all students are required to obtain parental or guardian consent. This step ensures that parents are fully informed and supportive of their child’s participation in team activities, including online publishing and media management. Being a part of the Student Newspaper involves responsibilities such as writing articles and sending out newsletters—each of which may involve interacting with various platforms and online tools.

By obtaining consent, we aim to create a safe, supportive environment for all team members and reinforce open communication with families. Parents or guardians will be asked to review and approve their student’s role and responsibilities before finalizing their participation on the team.


Application Process

  • Interested students should complete an application to join the Student Newspaper. After submission, students will be notified of their application status within 5-8 days.
