Frequently Asked Questions 💡
We understand you might have questions about our unique approach to education. Here are answers to some common questions about our program, schedule, and community.
What makes us different is our mission: we believe education should change the world. We’re not here to give you a one-size-fits-all education or simply teach you to pass tests.
Here’s what makes us stand out:
- We teach about freedom fighters, cultures, and movements often left out of traditional textbooks.
- You’ll learn in collaborative live classes, plus have the freedom to study independently.
- We support all pathways — whether you want to go to college, learn a trade, or explore creative passions.
- We’re deeply rooted in social justice, service, and equity.
- Our teachers come from around the world, bringing global perspectives into every classroom.
We’re not just a school — we’re a community that cares about your goals and growth.
If you’re in our accredited high school program, you’ll usually spend about 8–17 hours a week in live, interactive classes with your teachers and classmates. These sessions happen over 3–4 days each week—and the best part? No classes on Fridays! You’ll also have time set aside for independent study and coursework, and you’re welcome to join student-led clubs and workshops whenever you’d like.
For students in our homeschool co-op program, your schedule is more flexible. If you take the same number of core classes as the accredited program, you can expect a similar weekly schedule of 8–17 hours. But since it’s a co-op, you get to decide how many classes to take—just a few or a full schedule, it’s totally up to you.
If you’re in our middle school accredited program, you’ll usually spend about 6–10 hours a week in live classes with your teachers and classmates. That doesn’t include your independent work time or any fun, optional activities you want to join.
Live classes run Monday through Thursday between 10:00 AM and 4:30 PM Eastern Time (ET). There are no live classes on Fridays — ever!
Here’s what that looks like depending on where you live:
- 🕙 Eastern Time (ET): 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- 🕘 Central Time (CT): 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- 🕗 Mountain Time (MT): 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- 🕖 Pacific Time (PT): 7:00 AM – 1:30 PM
- 🕒 UK (GMT/BST): 3:00 PM – 9:30 PM
- 🕒 Nigeria (WAT): 3:00 PM – 9:30 PM
You’ll get to build your own schedule by picking the classes and times that work best for you, with most learners spending around 2-5 hours per day in live classes.
Yes! Most live classes are recorded and shared with students. So if you miss a class because of travel, illness, or just need to go back and review something — you’re covered.
Recordings are also helpful if:
- You want to review before a quiz or project
- You’re in a different time zone
- You learn better at your own pace
- You need to pause, rewind, or rewatch for better understanding
We get it — life happens. We’ve got your back.
Definitely! We have student-led clubs, virtual hangouts, seasonal events, game days, workshops, and a student community space just for connecting, creating, and having fun.
Some of our clubs include:
- 📰 Student Newspaper
- 📝 Student Council
- 📚 Yearbook Committee
- 🔬 STEM Club
- 🎮 Gaming Club
You can also start your own club if you’ve got a great idea — and we’ll help you make it happen!
Yes — and we love when students do that. If you have an idea for a club, group, or project, you can pitch it to us. You’ll need:
- A clear purpose for your group
- A plan for how often you want to meet
- An adult advisor (someone 24+ who supports the group)
From social justice and activism to anime or creative writing — if you’re excited about something, we’ll help you turn it into a thriving student-led space.
Yes — if you feel ready for the challenge! Some middle schoolers take high school-level classes in subjects they’re passionate about or excel in. Just know that these classes may move faster and expect more independence.
We recommend checking out the class descriptions first and asking for help if you’re not sure. We’re happy to guide you through what’s a good fit for your goals.
We offer classes for students in grades 6 through 12, with both middle school and high school level courses available. That said, we know that learning isn’t always about age or what grade someone’s “supposed” to be in.
If you’re younger but show strong academic skills, maturity, and readiness, you’re welcome to apply for special consideration. We may ask for a short assessment, some input from your parent or guardian, or even a quick chat with our academic team to make sure this is the right fit for you and that you’ll thrive here.
We believe in meeting students where they are and challenging them when they’re ready—not just when they hit a certain age. So if you’re ready to take on more and grow in a supportive, engaging environment, we’d love to help you take that next step.
Our accredited program is designed for students who are excited about learning, ready for structure, and eager to grow both academically and personally. While we try to make things as accessible as possible, space can sometimes be limited—so it’s important to submit a strong application.
Here’s what can help boost your chances:
- Show your consistency and dedication through past schoolwork, homeschool records, or a portfolio.
- Let us know what your goals are and why you think this program is a good fit for you.
- Mention any involvement in service, leadership, or community activities.
- Demonstrate that you’re ready for a mix of independent work and collaborative learning.
- Be honest about any learning needs or supports you might need—so we can make sure this is the right space for you.
We’re looking for students who aren’t just academically ready, but who are curious, motivated, and share our values of educational equity, social awareness, and lifelong learning. If that sounds like you, we’d love to see your application!
Both programs offer access to awesome classes, inspiring teachers, and a supportive student community — but they’re designed for different goals.
